Maroondah Singers proudly announces that our Vocal Scholar for 2018 is 18-year-old soprano Harmony Lee, who was introduced to the choir at its Annual General Meeting on February 26.Harmony enchanted those present with stirring renditions of the Vilja Song from Lehar’s The Merry Widow and Puccini’s O Mio Babbino Caro from the opera Gianni Schicchi. She said she is thrilled to receive the Maroondah Singers’ Memorial Scholarship and is looking forward to singing with the choir in such a special year.
Harmony, who was home educated, is currently studying under Australian soprano Jacqueline Porter. She has enjoyed singing from a very young age and was often found performing her own songs, singing at the top of her voice.
Harmony started taking formal singing lessons at the age of 12 with teacher Ainslie Jacket. She has paid for the majority of the lessons herself by busking with her voice and with her violin. She has played the instrument for eight years and also teaches her own students. Harmony has often performed with Victorian Opera in their youth productions for young aspiring singers.
