Team Bill from Maroondah Singers earns a Deakin Community Award

Team Bill, a group of choir members who looked after former member Bill Holmes in the last few years of his life, received recognition for their efforts at the Deakin Community Awards on August 6.

John Williams, Robyn South, Paul Fitzsimons and Bernadette Ross received a plaque from Michael Sukkar, Federal Member for Deakin, before a crowd of more than 800 people.

The night was entitled Celebrating Service to Our Community in what Mr Sukkar said was wonderful recognition of the “invaluable contribution of 120 humble, dedicated, and passionate volunteers and community groups”.

Team Bill, which was in the Group category, was honoured to be nominated as many other worthy causes missed out.

Other choir members in attendance were President, Peter Naughtin, and Nick Hansen, volunteer at Strathdon aged care facility where Bill passed away in January.

Dee Ryall, State Member for Ringwood, was Master of Ceremonies and Choir Victoria sang the National Anthem and The Gift of Song. Other categories were Seniors, Youth and Open and there was an overall winner.
